Sofia Art Gallery

EXHIBITION POLICY

Sofia Art Gallery displays museum exhibitions, curatorial projects, solo and group guest exhibitions of Bulgarian and foreign artists. It exhibits works from its collections in thematic, genre, style and historical exhibitions. Guest expositions are an important part of the gallery’s policy and its openness to the global processes in art. It organises retrospective exhibitions of prominent Bulgarian artists and works actively with young artists and curators. The gallery is a partner to a number of Bulgarian and foreign institutions in the common pursuit towards development of the modern art scene.

One of the main tasks of the museum is to preserve, restore and popularise through exhibitions and printed press the works in its departments, as well as to expand continuously its collection through preemptive purchases and donations. After an 18-year hiatus, in 2007 Sofia City Municipality started allotting annual funds for preemptive purchase of works. This provided the opportunity for rhythmic supplement of the collections to the necessary scientific and artistic level.

Sofia Art Gallery is engaged in scientific and artistic activities, as well as educational programmes. It expands the circle of its audience through meetings, lectures, debates, book presentations and concerts. The gallery and its branch continuously update and expand its websites and provide the opportunity not only for the media, but also for the cultural public circles, for a faster and more complete contact. The gallery has become a territory for the dialogue between the generations of artists and the cultural public circles, which also contributes towards the analysis of the development of Bulgarian art within the global processes.
